Adam Chamberlain has been appointed sales director for Mercedes-Benz Cars, as the premium brand continues to build upon its sales growth and new model line-up.

Chamberlain replaces Mike Whittington, who was promoted to managing director Mercedes-Benz Retail Group in January.

He takes up the sales director role in mid-April and will report to Gary Savage, managing director, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Chamberlain joins Mercedes-Benz from Fiat Group where he was sales director. He has also held management positions with VW Group.

He said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at Mercedes-Benz UK, and helping to continue to drive the company’s sales volumes upwards.  The company has great products and a great network, and it’s a challenge I’m going to relish.”

Marcus Breitschwerdt, president and CEO Mercedes-Benz UK, said the appointment completes the line-up of the brand’s senior passenger car team.

Breitschwerdt told AM at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this week that Mercedes-Benz had turned a corner after installing capacity over a 10 year period in the UK and failing to grow. He now believes the brand is on the right path to build up sales to take on Audi and BMW.

He told AM: “We didn’t use the potential of our brand and it was unacceptable. We have posted double digit growth in the last two years and we will not lose momentum.

"I will not leave the UK until Mercedes-Benz is the number 1 premium brand here.”
