Jaguar and Lexus have been named as joint top place brands in the 2014 What Car? JD Power survey this year.

Jaguar has held the top position for the past two years, and Lexus held the top position for 11 years and has recovered to take joint first place this year.

German manufacturers dominated the best models, with seven out of the top 10 models all originating from the country.

The car with the highest overall rating and the winner of the city car category is the Volkswagen Up. Its key attributes were listed as reliability, its easiness to drive and fuel-efficiency. Drivers also loved the interior space, layout and colour, and the fact it was easy to see out of.

The second-placed model is the Volkswagen Golf Plus, closely followed by the Skoda Yeti.

The What Car? JD Power study measures customer satisfaction with the vehicle and dealer service and is based on evaluation of attributes grouped in four key areas. In order of importance they are:  vehicle appeal (31%), which includes performance, design, comfort and features; vehicle quality and reliability (22%);  ownership costs (25%), which includes fuel consumption, insurance and costs of service/repair; and dealer service satisfaction (22%).

The What Car?/JD Power customer satisfaction survey took place during January and March 2014, opinions from over 15,000 motorists about their car: registered between January 2011 and December 2012. Only models with more than 4,000 sales were considered (109 in total).
