The Volkswagen Touareg was the fastest selling used car in January, according to Glass's monthly Hot Five list.

The vehicle valuation experts' Hot Five is based on 300 models, all of which have been subject to more than 50 price observations over a four-week period. The list is published once a month using data from GlassNet Radar; Glass’s live retail pricing system that provides up-to-the-minute pricing around the country, which looks at average selling times for used cars.

Glass's Hot Five for January:

1 Volkswagen Touareg
2 Vauxhall Mokka
3 Chevrolet Orlando
4 Skoda Yeti
5 Toyota Prius

Glass's head of valuations Rupert Pontin said: "The Volkswagen Touareg is often underrated but offers fantastic build quality, superb engines, great handling and subtle looks. This is the thinking man's Porsche Cayenne.

"Skoda is a brand to watch for 2015 as it begins to become a really desirable alternative to some of the more mainstream alternatives and the Yeti is very popular."

Average selling price for the top five fastest selling cars is £15,791 - up 6.5% on last month.

Slowest selling used cars:

1 Vauxhall Cascada
2 Kia Optima
3 Seat Toledo
4 Renault Scenic
5 Suzuki SX4 S Cross

Pontin said: "Vauxhall's Cascada has completed its journey to the bottom of the list becoming this month's slowest selling car. Such a shame because it is not a bad car but underlines Vauxhalls' current disconnect with the retail buyer. Mokka aside, the brand currently has three cars in the 20 slowest selling models.

"Seeing the Kia Optima here is a surprise, bearing in mind the retail buyer's love for this highly competent Korean brand. It may just be a case of there being too many Optimas in the market right now.”

The average selling price for the top five slowest selling cars is £15,062 - 11.7% up on the previous month.
