China’s BYD has launched a five-year free servicing offer across selected new and Approved Used models, as the brand seeks to support electric vehicle (EV) ownership during a period of uncertainty over its eligibility for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) of up to £3,750.
To qualify, manufacturers must have a verified science-based target (SBT) in place and ensure their vehicles meet specific embodied carbon limits. Vehicles from brands without an approved SBT will not be eligible for the scheme.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) estimates that around one-third of electric cars currently on sale will meet the Government’s criteria. However, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) produced in China and South Korea are expected to fall short due to their environmental standards.
BYD's free servicing offer is available immediately on new Dolphin Surf, Dolphin snd Atto 3 models, as well as on any Approved Used BYD model purchased through its retail network. It includes scheduled maintenance and labour for up to five years, based on BYD’s two-year/12,420-mile service intervals.
In addition to the free servicing offer, BYD is increasing its power battery warranty to eight years or 155,342 miles (200,000km), with a minimum 70% state of health (SOH) guarantee. The enhanced warranty applies across its entire EV and DM-i (Dual Mode-intelligence) range – including vehicles already on UK roads.
Steve Beattie, sales and marketing director at BYD UK, said the initiative reflects a long-term commitment to customer confidence and EV adoption.
“We understand that customers are looking for more than just savings upfront – they want lasting value and assurance,” he said. “While we may not currently be part of the Electric Car Grant, we didn’t want to wait to show our commitment. This five-year servicing offer is our way of giving back to drivers who choose BYD and supporting them well beyond the showroom.”
The offer is available until the end of 2025.
