A customer’s car was among 14 destroyed in a fire at Cars of Wirral last week.

Fire destroyed the main office, valeting bay and workshop of the business, which has been open just eight months.

The car dealership’s owner, John Jeffers, estimated the total cost of the damage at around £50,000 to £100,000.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was started by an electrical fault in the valeting bay. It destroyed two cars in the workshop and 12 parked nearby. Four were cars that had already been sold.

Jeffers told the Liverpool Echo newspaper: “We’ve lost 14 cars out of 220 on the yard. The business will carry on, these things happen.

“The garage will have to come down, as well as the sales office and my office. But we’ve still got some office space so can stay open. It’s devastating but we won’t let it set us back and we’re still open for business.”
