Title holders: Saracens players an their Alan Day Volkswagen Polo

Saracens rugby club players packed into a pub to help Alan Day Volkswagen managing director Paul Tanner raising money for Breast Cancer Now.

The championship winning team, whose Allianz Park ground is in Hendon, turned out in force to show their support for their car dealer sponsor at the watering hole, in Finchley, and helped to raise a total of £4,000 for the charity.

Team captain Brad Barritt, Chris Ashton and brothers Billy and Mako Vunipola, were among the players who attended the event which succeeded in raising £1,000 on the night, according to the Barnet Times.

Customers and staff at the Hampstead car dealers, who have just signed a new sponsorship deal with the rugby team, raised thousands of pounds by staging a ‘Pink Day’ for cancer research, the newspaper reported.

Tanner told the Barnet Times: “I am delighted with the response and generosity from the Alan Day staff and customers.

“It is a cause close to our hearts as members of staff have been treated for this disease.”
