Hatfields is preparing to demolish part of its existing Volvo dealership in Bury after gaining planning permission to build a new facility on the same site.

Volvo Hatfields of Bury, in Manchester Road, will demolish its existing showroom in to make way for the new 660 square metre main showroom and a 240 metre square side showroom and ‘display office’ according to the Bury Times.

Hatfield’s new development will also include an extension to the workshop to include new MOT and valet bays, as well as changes to the car park.

Bury Council’s planning committee gave the plans the green light at a meeting on Tuesday night.

Hatfields’ new facility will subscribe to the Swedish brand’s Volvo Retail Experience (VRE) showroom style, which allocates 40% of the space for a ‘living room’ with Scandinavian designed furniture, lowered ceiling, wifi and Swedish coffee and cakes, while the remaining 60% is in ‘street’ style to display the new car range.

The external facade of the new facility would be an aluminium-framed glazed showroom with opaque vinyl film.

The height of the building is expected to be reduced from 9.9m to 8.05m as part of the plans.

Hatfields currently has a total of 11 franchised locations, according to AMi, with just the one Volvo showroom.
