Donnelly Group has launched its new Donnelly foundation with news of a partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support which aims to deliver 6,100 hours of voluntary work to the charity.

The Northern Ireland family-owned motor retailer has made Macmillan its charity of the year and local groups and projects look to benefit from financial support from the group and time volunteered by the business's 800 staff, who are located across the group's nine locations.

Staff were given the role of picking their charity of the year - the first to be officially supported by the new foundation - and the majority of votes were given to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Roisin Donnelly, a spokesperson for Donnelly Foundation, said: “The Donnelly Group has supported the local community for more than 70 years and this new initiative allows us to extend our support to new individuals, causes and organisations right across Northern Ireland.

“Employees across our nine locations have always been extremely committed to getting involved and are keener than ever to really give back to the communities we work in.

“We’re thrilled to have Macmillan Cancer Support on board as our very first charity partner of the year following an incredible response from our employees.

“It is a cause very close to many of our hearts and we’re looking forward to raising huge amounts of money that will directly help those living with cancer in Northern Ireland, and of course their families.”

In addition to the charity partner of the year initiative, Donnelly Group will be providing financial support to various groups, projects and clubs.

It aims to help promote environmental awareness, physical and mental wellbeing, education and skills development.

Any project that fits the criteria will be able to apply for financial support from the group later this year.

Joanne Young, senior fundraising manager for MacMillan Cancer Support, said: “Approximately 30 people are diagnosed with cancer every day in Northern Ireland and this partnership with the Donnelly Group will help us to continue delivering care and providing support to those in need within our local communities.

“On behalf of the organisation and all those who benefit from our services, I would like to say a huge thank you to the employees of the Donnelly Group for selecting Macmillan Cancer Support as their chosen charity partner of the year.”

Elsewhere, Robins & Day by PSA Retail announced earlier this year that it is extending its £1 aftersales survey pledge across its sales department in a bid to raise more money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
