Cap HPI is launching a WLTP solution for users of its new vehicle data that will pull in information from manufacturers.

The new tool has been developed alongside vehicle manufacturers, importers and representative bodies and is being trialled in August ahead of a full-roll out in time for the September plate-change.

From September 1 2018, only Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) homologated cars can be sold in Europe.

WLTP is a laboratory test, and replaces the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) that can trace its roots back to the 1980s. Both tests enable customers to make comparisons between different vehicles, but WLTP uses a driving cycle that is more reflective of on-road driving.

The aim of the new WLTP cycle is to ensure published fuel economy and emissions offer a more realistic reflection of real-world driving, helping customers to judge better the fuel and emission efficiency of their car.

The data in Cap HPI's new tool will provide ‘span’ (a minimum and maximum) of values in the standard New Vehicle Data alongside full WLTP data for manufacturers who have sufficiently simplified vehicle options, and also offers a real-time API (application programming interface) to support specific vehicle configurations for those manufacturers requiring it.

Beth Davies, product manager at Cap HPI, said: “Our solution has been designed after consulting with our customers and all manufacturers.

“We believe this will meet consumer and business needs and our release plans will enable our customers to hit timelines.

“WLTP is a crucial industry-wide change, and we are working across the automotive supply chain to ensure we have a robust platform in place.”

Cap HPI said it will take time for all data to become available because manufacturers are taking different approaches to WLTP.

The API technical specification and a test interface will be made available to Cap HPI customers in September.

Davies said: “We continue to make our experts available to advise at every step of this process, and we are creating a portal to allow customers to access the latest crucial information from us about the WLTP solution and its implementation.”
