Tandem Bank Motor Finance is in mourning following the death of its managing director, Dave Briggs, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Briggs, who had launched and led Tandem Bank’s Motor Finance business over the last three years, was well known and respected across the motor finance sector, where he had worked for almost forty years.

Prior to joining Tandem, he spent more than two decades with MotoNovo Finance, in roles including regional business development manager, head of dealer operations and eventually chief operating officer.

Before MotoNovo he worked with First National Motor Finance for 10 years.

His expertise, caring nature and ready sense of humour meant he accumulated friends in abundance.

Since his diagnosis in March his wife Amanda and daughter have been fundraising for the Pancreatic Cancer UK charity.

As recently as July 3, Briggs was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to the Credit Industry Award at the Credit Strategy Credit Awards 2025.

With his wife and teenage daughter beside him, the extended standing ovation that accompanied his presence on the stage was, as Credit Strategy reflected, “the most poignant moment in the 26-year history of the Credit Awards.” It spoke volumes for the respect and affection with which so many people held for him.

Commenting on Briggs' passing, Dave Anderson, sales director at Tandem Motor Finance, said: "It was a privilege to work alongside Dave as part of his team building Tandem Bank's Motor Finance business. His belief in what we were creating, combined with his relentless energy in making it happen, made a lasting mark. He was a true teammate — sleeves rolled up, never too senior to get into the detail, and never short of encouragement or humour. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
