Nigel Hurley, CarShop chief executive, will share his story on how the business adapted through Covid-19 and navigated a rapidly evolving used car market.

The special used car retail case study session, sponsored by Oodle Car Finance, will be available to delegates that sign up to AM Live, which is free for automotive retail professionals and is being held on November 9 at the NEC, near Birmingham.

Hurley will also be joined after his presentation for a Q&A panel with Phil WIlliams, Oodle Car Finance managing director. Williams will share his views on the used market and consumer confidence around finance and funding.

The one day exhibition show and conference features a packed schedule with Digital, Sales, Aftersales and Strategy Theatres, with access to insights from over 40 speakers and a hall featuring innovations from over 60 suppliers.

AM Live 2022 operational excellence theatreCarShop’s owner, US-based Penske Automotive, also owns the top AM100 group Sytner, and has been looking to expand its operations further in the UK following on from the Nottingham SuperCentre that opened in December 2020.

CarShop currently operates 13 retail locations in the UK, following the addition of smaller CarShop Express location in Leighton Buzzard.

Hurley will offer detail on how the used car market shifted when new car supply dropped off, which had the knock-on effect of increasing used car demand and profits for all automotive retail businesses.

While this was a positive for franchised dealers, this created some unique challenges for used car supermarkets like CarShop.

Hurley said: “I’ll be going into detail on three legs of the stool that make for a stable used car operation.

“As part of my case study I'll be offering insights on acquisition of stock, preparation and sales.”
