Kia continues the revival of its model line-up with the unveiling of the new Rio.

Following the introduction of the Picanto and the Cerato last year, the Rio will be hugely important car for Korean manufacturer, rivalling B sector value brands such as the Chevrolet Kalos and the Hyundai Accent.

Seen here in saloon form, which is intended for the North American market, it will only be available as a five-door hatch when it is launched in the UK later this year. Ride and handling are said to be much improved, as are build and materials.

Prices are expected to start at around £8,000 with a choice of two petrol units, a 1.3-litre and 110bhp 1.6-litre, and a 1.5-litre diesel.

The hatchback and a sports version are set to debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
