The Lancer is Mitsubishi’s stab at the competitive small family car market. Although it may look slightly dated compared to its rivals, it is easy to live with.

The interior is simple and well organised and the ride comfortable, plus the storage is adequate.

There’s enough room to carry five adults in comfort while a false boot floor allows items to be hidden and offers capacious space with the rear seats folded.

My only gripe is the raked rear screen reduces visibility and makes reversing awkward, but at £13,701 it does offer no frills value for money.
