BMW says more than 50 orders were placed by the public on each day of the recent two week Birmingham motor show.
These come on top of the 1,000-plus orders already received and the 20,0000 potential buyers who have expressed an interest in the new incarnation of the small car icon.
Emma Scammell, Mini marketing manager, said after the car's successful UK debut: “We knew Birmingham would be exciting and the Mini has created a real buzz. We're still two months away from starting the formal order process, but our prospective customers just can't wait. It's been love at first sight.”
The car is set to be launched in the UK next summer with prices starting from about £10,000.
