The Institute of the Motor Industry reports a major drop in the number of women employed in the motor industry, despite rising numbers of female car buyers. The 1999 Lex Report on Motoring revealed women bought 40% of all new cars in the past two years.

Statistics from the Institute of the Motor Industry show a 52% drop in the number of women signing on its training courses, although overall numbers are static.

The Institute recorded a 72% increase in the number of young people enrolling during December against the same month in 1998, yet less than 1% were female.
