Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealers will retail the Mitsubishi Canter from December. DaimlerChrysler bought Volvo's 3.3% stake in Mitsubishi in April.

Mike Mudie has been appointed Mitsubishi truck manager at DaimlerChrysler tasked with building on Canter's 1,200-1,300 UK sales a year. Canter, available from 2.8t to 7.5t, is the only vehicle involved in the acquisition.

The move involved a lengthy handover process during which the parts operation was set up and dealers trained. Volvo is helping to ensure a smooth transfer of existing customers.

The DaimlerChrysler spokesman said showrooms would have separate branding and sales staff for Canter, which will retain its Mitsubishi badge. (October 10, 2001)
