UK car supermarket Motorpoint has dismissed speculation of a market recession, reporting instead, record sales in September and 'a bumper' October.

The company, which now operates from two sites, Derby and Burnley, sold 2,936 cars in September, compared to 1,820 in the same month last year, and in October the total was 1,943, compared to 1,240 last year.

The most popular models during October included the new Mondeo Ghia XTdi at £14,999 and the Audi TT at £25,999, a saving of £5,400 and £3,700 on the 'average' list price respectively.

Paul Winfield, Motorpoint director, said: “We believe UK consumer confidence in the economy is high.”
