Land Rover has enjoyed a record 25,000 vehicle sales in the UK in the first six months of the year, 15% up on the same period last year and and giving it a 2% share of the total market and 38% of the 4x4 sector.

The latest versions of the Freelander lead the brand, accounting for 13,853 sales and experiencing a 27% year-on-year sales increase. Sales of the Discovery are up 3.5% AT 5,840 while Range Rover sales are up 10% at 2,134. But sales of the Defender are down 4% to 3,354, likely to be the result of the harsh economic conditions suffered by its core market, agriculture, during the foot and mouth crisis.
