The results of the latest Euro NCAP tests see both the Renault Scenic and Volkswagen Touran achieve five stars for occupant protection. But while occupant safety continues to improve, carmakers continue to achieve low ratings for pedestrian protection.

The Audi A3, Jeep Cherokee, Toyota Previa and Mazda 6 scored just one star for pedestrian protection, while the Touran was top with three stars.

The Ford Focus C-Max was the top-scoring car for the new child protection rating (details left), achieving four stars.

“Unfortunately, whilst occupant protection improves, the number of manufacturers scoring only one or two stars for pedestrian protection is still very disappointing. Euro NCAP urges all manufacturers to redouble their efforts in addressing pedestrian safety,” says Euro NCAP chairman Max Mosley.
