Janie Richardson, sales director for Tiley of Bristol, views the Ssang-Yong deal as a move towards “required stability and continuity.” She adds: “There has been a bit of unrest among retailers and potential buyers but this gives us a foundation to build on.”

Grant Long, dealer principal of Norwich-based Norfolk Motor Group, feels upbeat about the latest prospects, but says a boost to consumer confidence is required because motorists believe the company had gone into receivership.

As former No 1 UK dealer in the original pre-Daewoo SsangYong network, Long remained loyal to the brand through buying, selling and servicing used vehicles before parts dried up. He expects to sell 100 Rexton SUV models this year.
