Small businesses working in the UK’s automotive industry are being invited to contribute their expertise towards planning future training for the sector.

The Automotive Academy is holding a workshop in Birmingham on September 21, aimed at combating gaps in the industry’s existing training programmes.

Alan Begg, the academy’s chief executive, says the workshop is a step towards the creation of a national curriculum of training courses. “We need companies to give us the benefit of their experience and that’s where smaller firms can really help,” he says.

The event, which is free to all delegates, will also be attended by SEMTA, the Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing. Companies wishing to send representatives should contact the Automotive Academy on 0121 717 6655.
