Toyota is to recall 1.41 million vehicles due to a headlight fault.

The company said the fault could lead to the lights failing.

It affects 16 models built between May 2000 and August 2002. It is recalling 1.27 million models in Japan. The rest of the cars affected were exported to Australia, Singapore and Thailand.

Toyota has not said how much the recall will cost.

The recall was announced by Japan's Transport Ministry, which said no injuries or accidents had been attributed to the defect.
