Two independent franchised retailers have gone into administration.

KPMG Corporate Recovery has been appointed as administrators of Haxby’s of Plymouth and BDO Stoy Hayward is the administrator of Wigan-based HL Gorner.

Family-run Haxby’s traded from sites in Plymouth retailing Daihatsu, Kia, Chevrolet, Subaru, Isuzu and Fiat. Following a review, its operations have ceased trading, resulting in 59 redundancies.

Joint administrator David Crawshaw says: “The business had suffered from a decline in sales and cash flow difficulties. It is with regret that we announce these redundancies but there is no alternative.”

KPMG is seeking buyers for the assets of the company, which includes two leaseholds and one freehold property.

HL Gorner has a TVR, Subaru and Daihatsu dealership, and is an authorized repairer for Mercedes-Benz. It is continuing to trade, but has made seven people redundant. Several companies are interested in buying the business.
