Workers who face the sack at Peugeot’s Ryton factory in Coventry will be holding a demonstration this Friday to urge motorists to boycott the company.

It starts at 8.00am outside George Heath Motors in Birmingham.

“We’ve moved the demonstration from Coventry to Birmingham so that colleagues from across the midlands can join us to put pressure on Peugeot sales,” said T&G convenor at the Ryton plant Jim O'Boyle.

The Ryton workers will follow that demonstration up with an event at 12pm on Saturday by the fountain in Coventry city centre, where they will distribute leaflets explaining the Peugeot boycott campaign.

“We want to highlight the damage that closing the Ryton plant will cause in Coventry, Warwickshire and the wider sub region. We’re reminding PSA Peugeot Citroen that sales in the UK will be hit if the company abandons Coventry and the UK.

"Our action also touches the conscience of the car-buying public, and we ask people to consider alternatives when choosing a new car."
