Edinburgh police have been investigating an incident at an Arnold Clark Motorstore in the city in which a woman customer was shot by a paintball.

The woman was browsing the forecourt with her husband when she was hit in the face. Sales executive Kevin Potter came to her aid before calling paramedics. She was later discharged from hospital.

Arnold Clark Motorstore manager Paul Brown said: "Kevin was showing her round the cars when she all of a sudden collapsed. The paintball had hit her in the face, and if it had been a few centimetres higher it could have taken her eye out."

Eyewitnesses saw a number of vehicles leaving the scene shortly afterwards – including a white van, a red car and a silver car. It is believed the assailant had shot her from one of the vehicle's windows.

Edinburgh police have appealed for witnesses to the attack, which took place on April 20.
