New and used car enquiry motoring website Motoring.co.uk has seen mobile device visits to its website grow by 190% year on year.

The Apple iPad is the most used device to visit the website.

Apple dominates mobile visits to the website, with 77% of mobile users visiting on an Apple device, however this shows a slight fall of 1% from January 2012.

iPhones account for 36.5% of visitors followed by Samsung branded products in a distant third with 6.4% device share and Sony Ericsson, HTC and RIM ( Blackberry ) having a 3.7%, 3.5% and 2% share respectively.

Terry Hogan, managing director at Motoring.co.uk comments: “We are continuing to see massive growth of visitors using mobile and tablets.

“Apple is again the clear winner as it manages its own operating system and devices are tied to it, with 77% using Apple iOS.”

Android devices are slowly gaining share, with 17.8% of visitors using one Android version or another.

Hardware devices with Windows operating system hardly register, with just 0.7% share.

Hogan said: “It seems that users, a lot of whom own both iPads and iPhones, are reaching for their tablet rather than their mobile phone. Why use a tiny screen that makes browsing fiddly, when you can use a larger version that can handle more complicated website designs easily.

"What this means to us is that as we are designing our new mobile site, we could start treating tablet users as if they were on a PC rather than as a mobile user.”
