SMC Renault Group has opened its new Aldershot showroom after acquiring the site from Mill Lane Renault which went into administration in May.

The business has retained its former staff and new positions have been created taking the total to 25 jobs.

SMC says the business has also been “streamlined” to meet market demands.

SMC managing director James Kimber said Aldershot’s Renault dealership has always been a key part of the local community and he hoped this would continue to benefit the town.

General manager at SMC Renault, Aldershot Mike Jeffs said: “Our focus has always been on customer care and I am looking forward to welcoming back our loyal customers who have been without us in recent months.

“We have not been here since the closure in May to look after them, and I am hoping we will attract new customers as well.”

SMC Renault is a family business with dealerships in Woking and Weybridge covering the areas of Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire.

Renault has been reducing its dealer network in the UK since after rightsizing the business for the UK at the end of last year.

The brand has seen its market share reduce with model like the Laguna, Modus, Wind, Espace and Kangoo car cut from its model range on February 1.

Renault UK said it would be taking a number of measures to improve brand perception and residual values.
