Kia Motors has appointed its chief design officer Peter Schreyer as its new president.

Schreyer is the first non-Korean to hold the title of president in the company’s history. He joined Kia in 2006 from the Volkswagen Group to create a new design-led product strategy for the brand and quickly became known for his “Tiger-nose” family look.

Kia’s design team, under the watch of Schreyer, has spawned the latest Sportage, the new Cee’d family, the Optima, Picanto and Rio.

The appointment of a designer to a presidential position within a major carmaker supports Kia’s brand strategy of being the most design focused Korean car manufacturer. Schreyer’s designs have transformed the global reputation of the brand and played a major part in Kia’s growth in the UK.

The brand will launch its new Carens this year and Kia has also confirmed a hot hatch sporty Cee’d for 2013 too.
