Looking ahead to the Geneva Motor Show in March, Rinspeed has released pictures of its new XchangE concept vehicle.
The Swiss company predicts that autonomous driving will bring business class comfort to individual travel.
The XchangE is a fully electric touring sedan featuring a ‘completely new operating and display concept’ with a host of innovative entertainment, safety and service functions.
The steering wheel can be ‘parked’ in the middle of the dashboard, courtesy of steer-by-wire technology similar to that found on modern jet aircraft.
Passengers can read, surf the web or hold a meeting at 120km/h.
Rinspeed’s Frank M. Rinderknecht commented: “A driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way.
“I am given free time that I can use for myself, while the sensor systems and computer chauffeur me safely to my destination.”
Partners and suppliers to the XchangE project include Eberspächer, Harman International and TRW Automotive.
