John Clark Motor Group acquires Pendragon dealerships

John Clark Motor Group has acquired four dealerships in Scotland from Pendragon, representing the Land Rover and Jaguar franchises, for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition includes Land Rover sites in Perth and Cupar and Jaguar showrooms in Edinburgh and Perth.

All 101 staff transfer across to John Clark Motor Group.

John Clark, John Clark Motor Group chairman and managing director, said: “Land Rover Pentland has been our only car dealership in the Scottish capital to date but this will change with the addition of the Jaguar dealership.

“We are further adding to the Pentland arm of our business and cementing our presence in the Central Belt with the addition of the Land Rover dealerships in Perth and Cupar and the Perth Jaguar site.”

Last year’s financial performance was the third consecutive record year for John Clark Motor Group and pushed the group into the top 30 of the AM100.

Turnover rose 15% to £355 million and the company’s net trading profit reached £5 million; an increase of 16%.

The number of new vehicles sold across the John Clark Motor Group during 2012 increased by 20% to 8,483 units.

Used car sales also saw record results with sales increasing to 7,079; an uplift of 17% on the previous year. The company has seen a Q1 result with turnover of £108 million.

Clark said: “The additions to our portfolio will further strengthen our place at the forefront of the Scottish automotive sector and serve as a platform for future growth.

“As a truly customer focused business we understand and recognise the importance of the role our employees play in representing our brand and building the business for the future.

“The employees from the acquired dealerships and their loyal customers offer a solid base for us to build on and further improve the experience for all our customers.”

The family-run and owned business now employs more than 900 people and has 11 automotive brand franchises across 21 sites in Scotland.
