Red Rose Mitsubishi has added a SsangYong Motors UK car retail franchise to its dealership site in north Birmingham.

The car retailer, which has also operated a Hyundai dealership in Tamworth in the past, officially opened the doors to a new sales point for SsangYong on College Road, Birmingham, on Monday (September 5).

SsangYong Motors UK managing director Kevin Griffin, said: “It’s with great pleasure that we welcome Red Rose SsangYong to our ever-growing dealer network. I am confident that Red Rose will achieve great things from the partnership and look forward to working with them.”

The appointment underlines an expansion of the SsangYong Motors UK’s dealer portfolio which has defied the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent months.

Dealership openings in Shrewsbury and the Wirral in August resulted from new relationships with Hawkins Motors and BVH Car Sales and came after the appointment of a Fine Cars’ showroom in Gosport, ahead of the COVID-19 crisis in March, and used car specialist Parkhills Car Centre, in Bury, during July.

In August SsangYong Motors UK also confirmed plans to move into a new headquarters offering “capacity to operate its national next day parts supply service to its franchised dealers”.

Griffin said that the move came as the Korean brand embarks on the “next phase of development”, including its investment in pure electric vehicles (EVs).

Red Rose SsangYong, also trading as Red Rose Mitsubishi for the last decade, was established in 1991 and moved to its current location in North Birmingham in 2011.

Commenting on its latest business development, Gillian Hamer, dealer principal at Red Rose SsangYong, said: “We are excited be working with SsangYong Motors UK we’re looking forward to promoting the franchise further and increasing sales and providing strong aftersales support in our area.”
