Lexus drivers are the UK's most satisfied motorists, according to the results of the Honest John Satisfaction Index 2020 of 10,000 car owners.

The Japanese premium car brand topped the rundown with an overall satisfaction rating of 89.5% while Skoda’s score of 88.9% saw it take second spot, just ahead of Jaguar with 88.6%.

South Korean carmakers SsangYong (88.5%) and Hyundai (88.2%) complete the top five.

Honest John asked owners to rate their vehicles in several areas including fuel economy, practicality and safety to compile their survey's evidence.

Lexus' vistory comes just a month after it topped the rankings of the Auto Express Driver Power customer satisfaction survey for a fourth consecutive year – beating Kia and Subaru to top spot in 2020.

Dan Powell, managing editor at HonestJohn.co.uk, said: “The nation’s motorists have spoken and top honours in the Honest John Satisfaction Index 2020 goes to Lexus.

“Over 10,000 readers took part in our survey and found a lot to praise the Japanese carmaker for its commitment to comfort, quality and reliability.”

The Hyundai Ioniq was crowned the most highly-rated car in this year’s index, with a score of 93.7%.

Available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or pure electric car it was praised for its ease of use, handling and build quality.

The Vauxhall Astra (2009-2015 model) ranked the worst for owner satisfaction. Singled out for its high repair costs and poor fuel economy, it recieved a rating of 73%.

It was followed by the Vauxhall Meriva (2010-2017) (78.4%) and the Citroen C3 Picasso (2009-2017) (80.4%) which also takes the title of the UK’s least reliable car.

In terms reliability by manufacturer Lexus, SsangYong and Suzuki came out best while Jeep and Tesla were the worst.

Powell said: “At HonestJohn.co.uk we are proud of our reputation for providing honest and unbiased advice on all aspects of motoring. We’re the only website that champions fairness for car owners by publishing expert information to help consumers make informed choices about their cars.”

In February 2020, online used car marketplace heycar acquired the Honest John website and claimed to have 'cemented its intention to bring greater trust and transparency to the market'.
