Motability has launched a pilot programme in partnership with Drivvn to help its customers, who receive mobility benefits they can spend on car leasing, to make the transition to an electric vehicle (EV).

The trial utilises an EV ‘suitability assessment tool’, delivering insight and guidance to customers considering a switch to EVs, based on personalised factors such as driving habits, mileage requirements, access to public and home charging, the customer’s confidence in EVs, Motability said.

The tool also offers journey mapping functionality to aid users in understanding how their driving habits may impact switching to an electric car and provides overviews of charging locations at frequently visited destinations.

Jonathan Jenkins, head of innovation at Motability Operations, said: "We understand the potential transition to EVs can be a consuming process for our customers.

“We are here to help make this process as effortless as possible for them by providing them with streamlined information allowing them to make confident decisions.

“This latest pilot will help to guide Motability Scheme customers through the switch to electric and enable us to further ensure that we are helping them make informed decisions about their next vehicle choice."

Two months into launch, the pilot scheme “showcases promising results”, said Motability.

“The team at Drivvn is using the latest technology and communications platforms to ensure that the right messages can be delivered at the right time to support buying decisions.”

Lexus is the latest car brand to join the Motability scheme.
