Cap HPI has revealed the scale of the used car it processes is set to reach record levels in 2018, with 68,000 unique model derivatives now on the market.

The automotive data specialist said that it expected to track 10 million vehicle movements through the year after analysis showed monthly movements of used values topped 9.4 million in 2017.

Commenting on the trend, Adrian Rushmore, editorial director at Cap HPI, said: “The industry is becoming more complex and the demands on the data more critical.

“We have continued to invest in data experts and industry analysts to ensure Cap HPI is well placed to continue to lead the industry.”

The team at Cap HPI analyse over two million transactional data records from a broad range of the wholesale market alongside over five million retail adverts each year.

Data is at the heart of the valuation process but is managed with daily insight from the editorial team.

The company makes daily movements across all used vehicles and four conditions, retail, clean, average and below.

Values are influenced by a host of factors including supply and demand in the wholesale and retail markets.
