Review
The KGM Actyon has arrived with quiet confidence, slotting into the family SUV segment with a blend of size, equipment, and a straight-talking fresh approach.
It’s big. It’s well-specced. And it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s refreshingly no-nonsense – even though that can cut both ways.
On the road, the Actyon’s 1.5-litre turbocharged engine serves up 161bhp - lively enough for everyday driving.
Inside, however, KGM plays to its strengths. The cabin is airy and spacious, especially in the back where reclining seats and ample legroom create a relaxed experience for passengers.
Overall, it’s a well-considered, liveable cabin. It’s built for families and real-world use, not glossy brochure photo shoots.
Dual 12.3-inch digital screens, heated and ventilated leather seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, 360-degree cameras, and a powered tailgate all come as standard.
The boot is vast, swallowing everything from holiday luggage to flat-pack furniture while in the single K50 spec on offer, the Actyon piles on the kit. And that’s the point.
That kind of spec list usually comes with a premium badge and a premium price. Not here.
For Tony Sciascia at Celtic Auto which has become one of the latest franchise points for the Korean brand, the Actyon’s appeal is obvious. “Everything comes as standard,” he says.
“Ventilated seats, wraparound dual screens, even driver-side controls for the passenger seat - it’s thoughtfully put together and properly specced.”
He also praises the way it drives: “It’s a big car with a 1.5-litre engine, and it’s really smooth. Quite nippy, actually. I was impressed.”
Wayne Browning at Melton Mowbray-based Browning sees the KGM franchise as a breath of fresh air for small independents like his. “There are only a few brands that suit dealers like us. KGM’s timing has been spot on,” he tells AM.
For all the industry hype around EVs and digital transformation, Browning was drawn to the grounding reliability - and niche positioning - of KGM’s current portfolio.
“KGM has the heritage, which is becoming rare every time another brand pops up,” he says. “They’ve got the petrol and diesel offer and that’s also going to be rare. They’ve got a real niche. It’s not being sold as perfect, but it is for a lot of people.”
The KGM Actyon is currently available with an attractive finance package designed for maximum flexibility. With 0% APR and no monthly payments, customers simply place a 50% deposit - £19,324.50 in this example - and settle the remaining balance 12 months later.
It's a straightforward way to enjoy the Actyon without ongoing monthly commitments, based on an annual mileage of 10,000 miles.
However, while the Actyon stands out for its space and specification, it’s worth noting the impact of its fuel economy and emissions on running costs.
With CO₂ emissions of 194g/km, the first-year road tax currently stands at £1,650, rising to £3,300 from 1 April 2025. Thereafter, owners will pay £190 annually.
On the upside, the Actyon’s list price falls below the £40,000 threshold, meaning it avoids the £410 annual luxury car tax applied in years two to six.
Still, its relatively high emissions mean more frequent visits to the petrol station than many lower-emission rivals - something to keep in mind for longer-term cost planning.
Thankfully, a five-year/100,000-mile warranty offers a degree of reassurance and for buyers focused on long-term running costs. That’s a key plus.
