The head of Mitsubishi Motors North American operations has resigned after a loan scheme stalled the carmaker's recovery.

The company says Pierre Gagnon quit his post as North American chief executive and co-chairman to pursue other opportunities. He will be replaced by Finbarr O'Neill, chief executive officer of Hyundai North America.
