Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has announced a standard 10-year, 100-thousand mile limited powertrain warranty for all Mitsubishi Motors products sold in the US, beginning with 2004 Model Year vehicles.

The move is a counter to a decline of over 25% in Mitsubishi's US sales last year, and signals, besides poor quality perceptions, a retargeting of marketing effort towards older buyers. The Mitsubishi warranty previously covered the first seven years or 100,000 miles. It is not transferable to second owners.
