Infiniti has launched its 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine - the first diesel in its line-up.

It will initially be available in both the EX and FX crossovers and later in the M sedan.

The marque now has five model lines – G37 saloon, coupé and convertible, plus the EX and FX ranges.

The sixth model, the Infiniti M Line, will be launched during 2010 with the choice of petrol and the new 3.0d unit.

“We were aware from the outset, however, that for Infiniti to offer a complete range a powerful diesel engine was a must, especially in the European premium SUV market where diesel represents the bulk of sector sales," said Jim Wright, vice-president, Infiniti Europe.

The engine produces 238PS and 550Nm of torque, and is coupled to a standard seven-speed automatic transmission.
