New managing director at Jos Richardson & Son

Joseph Richardson has been appointed managing director of Yorkshire family business, Jos Richardson & Son Ltd.

Richardson is the fifth generation to work in the Goole-based family business, which was established in 1892 by his great, great grandfather, also called Joseph Richardson.

He joined the business in 2004 and the business represents Peugeot, is an approved Vauxhall service centre and also has a petrol forecourt and convenience store business.

Timothy Richardson will take on the role of chairman after serving for 30 years as managing director.

Richardson said: “My objective is to grow the forecourt side of the business even further with the acquisition of more sites.

“The convenience sector is growing and playing an increasing role in people’s everyday shopping habits.  We aim to the best in class providing customers with modern forecourt facilities a good range of quality products and above all excellent customer service.

“I will also be taking on responsibility for our established dealerships at Glews Garage which remain an integral part of our business; my focus will be to build on the reputation that my father, Timothy, has worked hard to develop over the last 30 years.

“I am proud to be taking on the role of managing director for a company that has such a strong heritage.  It is a big responsibility but I am ready for the challenge.”

After studying business management at Newcastle University Richardson started his career on the graduate training scheme at National Power before moving to Centrica where he was marketing manager.
