A business helping car dealers reduce their vehicle logistics costs is on the growth path thanks partly to investment from the chairman of Sytner Group, Laurence Vaughan.

Vaughan, who also heads investment companies Catapult Ventures and Opus Ventures, was introduced to Movex founder Daren Jones last year when Jones was seeking external funding to expand his online venture which helps to connect dealerships with transport companies seeking their business.

The online business allows a dealer to post details of a vehicle move required, after which transport suppliers are notified and invited to quote.

As Movex prepares to mark its second birthday next month, it is now facilitating more than 3,000 vehicle movements per month and has 3,000 dealerships and 600 transport companies using its service.

It has moved to new premises and has expanded to a team of seven staff. A new website and mobile app is also set to launch, allowing tracking of the delivery.

Jones said dealerships can typically reduce their vehicle logistics costs by 25%, as in many cases the transport companies are keen to win their business to avoid a transporter being empty on a return journey.

In 2013 Movex coordinated 25,000 vehicle movements. Jones said the forecast for 2014 is now 100,000. Users include Lookers, Pendragon, BCA and G3Remarketing.
