The EU’s Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and Real Driving Emissions (RDE) tests both came into effect on September 1, replacing the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) tests.

Car manufacturers' rush to sell new cars which were not compliant with the new WLTP and RDE fuel economy and emissions legislation led to a year-on-year registrations rise of 23.1% in August, and September registrations are expected to suffer as a result.
