Arnold Clark Automobiles' managing director Eddie Hawthorne has been chosen as 'industry icon' for his contribution to the sector at the inaugural National Franchised Dealer Association awards on Saturday.

Hawthorne received the accolade alongside Miles Trower, partner at TLT Solicitors and the NFDA's retained lawyer, who was given the business partner of the year award for his work in supporting the association and dealer members, particularly on European issues.

BMW sales director Richard Hudson collected the trophy for manufacturer of the year at the event at Celtic Manor Resort, in Wales, acknowledging the brand's consistently strong standing in the annual NFDA Dealer Attitude Survey. Other nominees were Toyota and Lexus.
