Maxus has launched its own light commercial vehicle (LCV) scrappage scheme to coincide with the launch of Transport for London’s own £110 million bid to reduce emissions.

The LCV manufacturer’s 49 UK retailers will be offering up to £14,000 off its eDeliver 9 electric van as part of a retail offer open from January 27 to August 31, while eDeliver 3, T90EV pick-up and MIFA 9 MPV customers can all benefit from £1,000 off.

Is offer includes a free home or workplace charger.

Maxus’ scrappage scheme arrives as Transport For London (TfL) launches a £110 million scheme offering van owners £5,000 to help them buy a vehicle that will comply with regulations imposed by the capital’s recently-expanded ULEZ.

Commercial vehicle owners in Sheffield and Newcastle have also recently been faced with the prospect of updating their vehicles to meet new emissions standards imposed by clean air zones.

Mark Barrett, the general manager of Harris Maxus said: “Maxus recognises that it has a key role to play in accelerating the switch to electric driving.

“Our new scrappage scheme has been created to encourage the transition to zero emission transport, helping drivers make the switch while simultaneously removing older and higher emission vehicles from our roads.

“There has never been a better time to pick up a MAXUS electric vehicle, this scrappage programme is an incredible opportunity to upgrade your transportation, make the move to electric and access the latest technology and battery technology available, which in the case of the MIFA 9 offers a range of up to 323 miles (NEDC) on a single charge.”

Last month Harris Maxus stated that it was targeting growth through UK electric vehicle (EV) sales after officially opening its new headquarters in Liverpool.

Owned by China’s MG-owning SAIC Motor Corporation, the brand is currently forecasting growth of over 200% in the UK this year after ending 2022 with sales of 6,000 units

TfL’s new scrappage scheme is open to charities, sole traders and business with 10 or fewer employees registered in London.

They can apply for a £5,000 grant to scrap a van or £7,000 for a minibus, with a £5,000 grant also available to retrofit certain vans or minibuses.

Grants to scrap and replace a van or minibus with a fully electric vehicle (EV) are set at £7,500 and £9,500 respectively.
