Volkswagen retailers across the UK have officially opened their order books for the new, 207PS Polo GTI hot hatch.

Priced from £26,430, the iconic GTI nameplate returns to the boot lids and flanks of the supermini following the launch of the revised sixth-generation model range earlier this year.

Its introduction is another signal that VW continues to take performance cars seriously, following the launch of its performance-leaning ID.4 GTX elelctric vehicle (EV).

At the heart of the new Polo GTI is a two-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine and seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG).

Volkswagen Polo GTIThe drivetrain is capable of propelling the compact performance car to 62mph in 6.5 seconds on the way to a potential top speed of 149 mph.

Lisa Hartley, Polo product manager at Volkswagen UK, said: “Continuing this illustrious history is this newest version of our pocket-rocket, and it really is the best so far.

“With driver-focussed dynamics, a powerful 207 PS turbocharged engine, big-car tech, a generous list of standard equipment, and classy, assertive yet understated looks, the new Polo GTI is a class act among hot hatches.”

Among the performance-oriented enhancements on the new Polo GTI are a larger front anti-roll bar and a 15mm reduction in ride height.

It also features VW’s XDS electronic differential lock which, if necessary, controls brake pressure on the front wheel on the inside of a bend to improve driving dynamics.

Inside the new Polo GTIAs standard, the new Polo GTI is now fitted as standard with Volkswagen’s IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, an illuminated radiator grille crossbar and red-painted brake callipers.

Inside, sports seats feature the legendary ‘Jacara’ check pattern, with sports comfort seats in ArtVelours material available as an option.

Among the technology on board is a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument binnacle and VW’s Discover Media Navigation and Infotainment system, which features an eight-inch touchscreen.

Customers will also be opt to upgrade their car with six-speaker Beats Sound System, featuring a subwoofer, 300-watt power output and eight-channel amplifier.

A set of 18-inch ‘Faro’ alloys can also be fitted in place of the 17-inch standard items.
