This family-owned Kia dealership, which trades in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, uses its staff Facebook site as a key communication tool and managing director David Boyd  holds meetings with staff at least monthly. 

He believes in recognising achievements – long-serving employees receive gifts or a meal, and one employee who recently retired after a long period with the business was given a cruise for him and his wife.

Staff receive an average of 24 hours of training a year. Attendance at leadership workshops and mentoring form part of its professional training options, and Roadside also supports staff in taking leadership roles within volunteer organisations. Staff took part in the 2017 Belfast City Marathon Relay and raised almost £7,000 for the Northern Ireland Children To Lapland Trust, which provides memorable experiences for terminally ill children.

Staff particularly love Roadside’s subsidised café, team nights out and employee car scheme. 

Annual bonus is based on attendance, and sales personnel receive commission in their holiday pay. A bonus scheme for ‘sales consistency’ is also paid, dependent on an individual’s performance through the year.
